Monday was still supine, still wearing nothing but a beatific smile, when Sunday entered the room, sat down beside her and said wearily, “So many things have been happening that I forgot to worry about you and your adventure. Have you heard about Zanni?”

“Uh huh,” Monday said dreamily, still smiling.

“I’ve been out tramping the streets, trying my German on everybody I met, but nobody knows anything.” Sunday blew out a long breath. “Well.” She cast a sidelong glance at her naked sister and said, “Well, from the look of you, the adventure wasn’t intolerable.”

“No, ma’am!” Monday said emphatically. She sat up, clasped her arms around her knees and beamed even more radiantly. “Every bit of this whole day’s been downright nice. And I got you to thank for it.”

A trifle uncomfortably, Sunday said, “Well, I just came up to make sure you were all right. You seem to be. Don’t you want to come downstairs and get something to eat?”

Monday giggled. “Sister Sunday, you wouldn’t believe how full I is. And all I’ve done learnt today.”

“Oh, my. From her? I hope it hasn’t made you what she is.”

“Not nohow! You told me true, and I’m obliged to you. It got me John Fitz. How ‘bout that?”

“What got you John Fitz?” asked Sunday, bewildered.

“What-all I learnt. Things that might get you your Mr. Zack. Listen here.” And Monday, with relish, told everything that had happened since she stepped out of the balloon gondola, and Sunday’s eyes went wide with amazement as the tale unfolded.

Only once did she interrupt: “So you gave the game away.”

“I’m sorry, sister. I truly did mean to keep quiet.”

“It doesn’t matter. Soon or later, she’d have found out. I figured she’d have a fit, then.”

“Did she ever. Well, after I skedaddled out of there…” and the tale went on, and Sunday’s eyes got ever wider.
